[Following is an official OnlineBookClub.org review of “The Search An Hour Closer” by Frank Klein, and Bill Hollenbeck.]

The Search An Hour Closer by Frank Klein and Bill Hollenbeck is a book about a series of unsolved murders, and one man’s desire to get justice for his murdered wife. The book begins when a young couple is ambushed while on their honeymoon in the forest. The young woman is murdered while her husband is badly beaten and left for dead. This leads to him vowing to find her killers. The book takes place over several years and is set in the Arkansas landscape, which consists of mountains and forests. Local law enforcement is involved, and eventually the FBI, as the murderers cross state lines.

I liked how the authors were very vivid in their descriptions. I was able to imagine the beauty of the Ozarks through their portrayals. I was also able to empathize with the main character because of this. I felt his despair and determination through the writing of the authors. I even felt the rage and malevolence of the antagonist. This meant I was fully invested in all their actions, which I did not expect. The main character’s integrity was portrayed through anecdotes from people who knew him. This made it easy to root for him as he pursued the bad guys.

I could not put down the book, as it was very captivating. I was on the edge of my seat as the story developed. I was often left guessing as to what would happen next, which I liked. The authors were able to advance the story in such a way that I could not wait to see what would happen next. It also had interesting tidbits on hiking and hunting which I greatly enjoyed.

However, there were some negative aspects of the book. The beginning was not an easy read. It was full of violence, which I did not like. Nevertheless, I understood why it was necessary. It explained how such an evil person came about. It helped explain the motivation of the antagonist, without excusing his actions. Other parts of the book were also violent, but somehow, it was the beginning that stayed with me.

The book was exceptionally well-edited because I did not find any typos or errors. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes mystery thrillers. The book is bound to keep you in suspense until the end. I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars because it was very captivating. I read it all in one sitting, which surprised me.
